At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.

Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regular huinga ako — online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position

We are looking for a dedicated Primary or Secondary Kaiako with expertise in Years 1-10 to join our Southern region. This role will be based in one of our regional tari (office): Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown or Invercargill.

In this role, you'll: 

• Design and deliver personalised, authentic learning programmes tailored to the strengths and needs of ākonga.
• Facilitate weekly Huinga Ako, guiding and supporting students through their educational journeys.
• Collaborate with colleagues and interact with students online and in person to foster meaningful learning experiences.

You are a creative and forward-thinking educator who is passionate about providing authentic and meaningful learning experiences for ākonga.

You will also bring:

• A New Zealand teacher registration and a current practising certificate
• Recent primary or secondary teaching experience.
• A strong understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and current assessment practices.
• A commitment to innovative, future-focused pedagogies that engage and inspire ākonga.
• The ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with ākonga, whānau, and colleagues.
