This role is based in Greymouth. As there is currently no established tari in or near Greymouth, the role will initially be worked remotely. When a tari is established in or near Greymouth, this will become the primary place of work.

At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.
Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regular huinga ako — online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position
You will provide leadership and effective management for their team and will be an essential driver within the school for maintaining the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning in their team.
You'll have an in-depth understanding of Big Picture principles and implementation, great interpersonal skills and have a proven record of managing a teams in the education sector, plus a track record of working positively to deliver on organisational strategic direction. You'll manage the teaching team, assist with building a dynamic teaching and learning environment and ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and pastoral support to our ākonga (students).
This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with proven experience in Primary and/or Secondary education and who is keen to further develop their expertise in:
- leadership and management, including performance and staff development
- enabling ākonga (students) to achieve
- planning and assessment, and
- effective relationship management
There is a teaching component to this role so applicants must be trained teachers with current NZ registration and relevant qualifications.

Professional credibility and people-focused leadership experience, including current New Zealand teacher registration and practising certificate, proven leadership of kaiako, and a strong track record of supporting teams to deliver high-quality teaching and learning outcomes for ākonga while contributing to organisational strategic direction.

Strong personal and team effectiveness, demonstrated through being proactive, well organised, and committed to continuous learning and development, with a focus on supporting kaiako growth, capability building, and the ongoing pursuit of knowledge and understanding (māramatonutanga).

Values-led, ākonga-centred practice grounded in Te Ao Māori, by empowering kaimahi through whakamana, fostering kotahitanga and whaitake through holistic wellbeing and meaningful pathways for ākonga, building strong whakawhanaungatanga across teams, ākonga and whānau, and committing to progressing your te reo Māori journey in an authentic way.
