Fixed Term (April / May – December 2026)
Part-Time up to 0.6 FTE (up to 24 hours per week)
Based in one of Te Kura regional offices: Wellington, Palmerston North, Masterton, New Plymouth, Hastings, Rotorua, Gisborne, Wairoa, Tauranga, Hamilton, Auckland, Whangarei, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill or Queenstown

The Careers Guidance Counsellor | Kaiarahi Umanga supports ākonga in Years 7 - 13 to explore, plan, and prepare for future pathways. The role provides personalised career guidance, coaching, and mentoring, and contributes to the development and delivery of a cohesive Careers Education approach across Te Kura.
The position supports ākonga to build clear, purposeful pathways by connecting learning, strengths, interests, and real-world opportunities.
In this role you will:
- Provide personalised future pathways advice, guidance and coaching to ākonga
- Support ākonga to identify strengths, interests, and future pathways
- Contribute to the design and delivery of Careers | Future Pathways Education at Te Kura
- Work collaboratively with kaiako, guidance staff, and regional teams
- Support culturally responsive outcomes for Māori and Pacific learners
- Build connections with community and pathway partners

We're looking for someone who:
- Is a New Zealand Registered Teacher
- Holds (or is working towards) a Careers Education qualification
- Has strong knowledge of NZ education and career pathways
- Builds positive, trusting relationships with ākonga, whānau, and kaimahi
- Is organised, reflective, and comfortable working across teams
- Values inclusive, culturally responsive practice
