2026 Curriculum Development – Literacy and Numeracy Learning Outcomes Tool (LOT)
Full-time (1.0 FTE) (1.0 FTE available, which may be shared between 2 part‑time kaimahi or appointed to 1 full‑time kaimahi)
Fixed term: April – December 2026
Based in any Te Kura location: Wellington, Palmerston North, Masterton, New Plymouth, Hastings, Rotorua, Gisborne, Wairoa, Tauranga, Hamilton, Auckland, Whangarei, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill or Queenstown
We are seeking one or more experienced and passionate educators to support the revision, refinement, and extension of the Literacy and Numeracy Learning Outcomes Tool (LOT) across Phases 1–4, as part of 2026 Curriculum Development.
This mahi is critical to supporting consistent understandings of learner progress from early through upper primary phases and ensuring Te Kura tools meet national curriculum expectations and external requirements.
You will be supported by the Curriculum Wāhanga, working collaboratively with colleagues to develop high-quality, evidence-informed descriptors that are clear, coherent, and responsive to the diverse needs of our ākonga.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a nationally aligned approach to literacy and numeracy progressions across Phases 1–4, supporting kaiako and ākonga to clearly understand what progress looks like over time.
Key Focus Areas
In this role, you will contribute to:
- Revising and refining Phase 1–4 Literacy and Numeracy learning outcomes descriptors
- Reviewing and strengthening the Learning Outcomes Tool (LOT) to:
- Clarify Literacy and Numeracy descriptors across phases
- Align outcomes and progressions with the Ministry of Education 5‑point progress markers
- Support shared understanding of learner progress across learning contexts and year levels
- Ensuring the LOT reflects:
- The New Zealand Curriculum Refresh (NZCR)
- Integration of mātauranga Māori
- Literacy, and numeracy

Ko koe tēnei | About you
Registered kaiako (teacher) with a current teacher's practicing certificate who brings:
- Recent teaching experience in New Zealand schools
- The right to work in New Zealand
- Strong understanding of literacy and/or numeracy learning progressions, particularly across early and middle phases
- Familiarity with the New Zealand Curriculum Refresh, including:
- Literacy and numeracy
- Mātauranga Māori
- Capabilities
- Experience designing, reviewing, or refining:
- Learning outcomes
- Progressions
- Curriculum or assessment tools
- Strong collaboration and time-management skills
