Kaiako | Teacher – Learning Support
Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Kura
At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.
Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regular huinga ako — online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position:
We're looking for a passionate and innovative Kaiako (teacher) with expertise in Learning Support to join our Northern Region and the team based in Auckland. In this role you will be working with ākonga (students) with additional/specific learning needs. Please note: this role includes mandatory office days at our Queen Street location.
It's an exciting time at Te Kura as we continue to innovate and transform the way we provide distance learning. In our online environment, we work with the latest technologies and are constantly growing in this space.
We're forward thinking and do things a little differently, but that doesn't mean no student contact! You'll interact with students at advisories, communicate with them using online tools and guide a group of students as their Learning Advisor. We are committed to seeing you grow with us and development opportunities often crop up within the school.
Please note that we will be shortlisting candidates as we receive applications and may close the vacancy if suitable candidates are identified prior to the closing date. We recommend applying as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Ko koe tēnei | About you:
Interested in authentic learning, you model current pedagogy and are always coming up with new ideas. You are enthusiastic, collaborative, understand the key competencies of the New Zealand curriculum assessment practice and are committed to improving education outcomes for students.
This position would suit teachers with learning support experience in the primary and secondary sectors.

At Te Kura, we live by our values:
- Manaaki — showing respect, generosity, and care
- Whanaungatanga — building relationships and belonging
- Tika — acting fairly and honestly
- Ākonga at the Centre — guiding every decision we make
Hei whakautu | In return
Te Kura will provide you with the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive environment and work in a team that offers genuine work flexibility as part of an organisation that makes a difference to ākonga (students) across New Zealand.
